Data last updated November 2026 · Our methodology
Overview
Qonto is a Paris-based business finance platform that gives freelancers, micro-businesses and SMEs an online current account with a local IBAN, physical and virtual Mastercard cards, SEPA transfers, and finance admin tools. It operates in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Portugal. It holds a payment institution licence from the French ACPR and applied for a banking licence in 2025. Beyond the account itself, Qonto adds client invoicing, receipt capture, expense reports, team budgets, supplier invoice handling, sub-accounts, and cash flow tools such as categorisation and a real-time VAT estimate. Outside accountants get unlimited access from the Smart plan upward. Pricing has two families billed monthly, excluding VAT. Solo plans run €9, €19 and €39 a month, and Team plans with unlimited users run €49, €109 and €199. Each plan caps cards and monthly SEPA transfers, and extra transfers, direct debits and international payments cost extra. Paid add-ons cover invoice automation, project tracking and team spend controls. Every plan starts with a one-month free trial and has no commitment. Qonto connects to accounting tools including DATEV, Sage, Tiime, Holded and Dougs, and to Stripe, Slack, Payfit, Google Drive, Zapier and Make. It also offers a public API and EBICS on higher plans. The main limitation is that Qonto is a banking and spend layer, not a full accounting system. Reviewers also report account freezes during compliance checks, and international and FX transfers are expensive.

Pros & Cons
Pros
- Low entry price: the Basic solo plan costs €9 a month, and every plan has a one-month free trial with no commitment.
- Team plans include unlimited users, so costs do not rise with headcount.
- A large integration directory covers DATEV, Sage, Tiime and Stripe, plus Zapier, Make and a public API.
- Accountants get unlimited access from the Smart plan, which makes bookkeeping handoffs easier.
- Reviewers on G2 and Capterra praise the interface and quick onboarding.
Cons
- Reviewers often report account freezes during compliance checks that hold funds for days.
- Support is described as slow or generic when an issue is complex.
- International transfers cost 0.56% to 1.8% with a €5 minimum, which adds up for businesses that pay in many currencies.
- Qonto is a payment institution, not a full bank, and offers no broad lending products.
- There is no full general ledger or financial statements, so a separate accounting tool is still needed.
