Overview
Collmex is a browser-based accounting and business software suite from Collmex GmbH, based in Saarbrücken. It has been on the market since 2003 and is aimed at German small businesses, freelancers and clubs. It is sold as separate modules: Buchhaltung for bookkeeping, Rechnung for invoicing, Verein for association management, and complete packages that add inventory, purchasing, a simple CRM, project time tracking and an online shop interface. The bookkeeping module uses the SKR03 and SKR04 charts of accounts. It covers balance sheets, profit and loss statements, income surplus accounting (EÜR), BWA reports, fixed assets and travel expenses, and it files VAT advance returns via ELSTER. Bank transactions come in through HBCI online banking and are matched to booking suggestions. Data can be exported to DATEV for tax advisors, and a read-only auditor role supports tax audits. Pricing is monthly, billed by direct debit, and you can cancel at the end of any month. Free tiers exist for bookkeeping and invoicing. Paid modules start at 8.95 EUR a month, and complete packages run from 16.95 to 46.95 EUR a month, all excluding VAT. Most plans have a fixed number of users. Only the pro package and Buchhaltung basic let you add users, at 11.95 EUR each per month. Third-party sources report connections to DATEV, Shopify, WooCommerce, Stripe and PayPal, plus an HTTP API and CSV and XML interfaces. Data is hosted in an ISO 27001-certified data center in Cologne. The main drawback is that the software is German-only and its interface is plain and dated. It suits companies of up to about 30 employees rather than growing or international businesses.

Cons
- The interface is plain and dated, according to reviewers, and the many booking templates take time to learn.
- German-only, and not suited to international or multi-currency businesses.
