Overview

Agenda is accounting and payroll software from Agenda Informationssysteme in Rosenheim, Germany. It is sold in two forms. Agenda PLUS is a full system for tax advisors and auditors. A business version, Rechnungswesen, covers bookkeeping for companies. The business package handles DATEV-style booking entry and electronic VAT advance returns through ELSTER. It also includes a statement manager that imports bank and PayPal transactions and suggests bookings, open-item tracking with dunning and direct debits, short-term liquidity planning, cost center and cost unit accounting, fixed-asset depreciation, and annual statements filed as E-Bilanz or to the Bundesanzeiger. It suits German companies that want to keep their own books and pass data cleanly to a tax advisor. The vendor says the handover works with any advisor's software. Business pricing is a monthly subscription plus VAT and usage-based costs. It starts at 45 EUR for financial accounting only, rises to 79 EUR with cost accounting, assets and year-end, and to 119 EUR with five clients. Tax firm bundles listed by a reseller run from 219 to 509 EUR per month. Interfaces include ELSTER, SEPA, the DATEV formats and DATEVconnect, ZUGFeRD and XRechnung, and receipt tools such as Flowwer and GetMyInvoices. You can install it locally or run it hosted in a German data center (Agenda ASP). The main limitation is that it is built only for German law and the German language. Public user reviews are also very few, and the four reviews on Capterra Germany average a low 2.3 out of 5.

Who Agenda is best for

Good fit

  • Agenda PLUS is built for German tax advisory firms, with client portals, tax calculation and fee billing.

  • The business accounting package starts at 45 EUR per month and hands data easily to a tax advisor.

Less suited

  • It offers cost accounting, controlling and fixed assets, but it is limited to the German market.

  • The vendor markets the entry package to freelancers, but it is priced above simple invoicing tools.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Covers German compliance tasks in one package: ELSTER VAT returns, E-Bilanz, Bundesanzeiger filing and GoBD-compliant cash books.
  • DATEV-style booking logic and DATEV interfaces make it easy to work with tax advisors and to switch from DATEV.
  • Computerwoche calls it a full-featured and cheaper alternative to DATEV for SMEs.
  • The expert hotline is free in every package, and the hosted ASP option includes backups and updates in a German data center.
  • Cost center and cost unit accounting with contribution margin analysis are built in.

Cons

  • Built only for German law and the German language, and there is no mobile app according to Tax & Bytes.
  • Very few public reviews: the four reviews on Capterra Germany average 2.3 out of 5, with 2.0 for ease of use.
  • Usage-based costs for cloud use and payroll headcount make the full cost hard to predict.
  • The listed prices are starting prices, and training costs extra.
