Overview
Shine is a French business payment account, sometimes called a neobank, built for freelancers, sole traders and very small companies. It provides a French IBAN, SEPA and instant transfers, direct debits, international transfers in major currencies, physical and virtual Mastercard cards, cheque deposits and cash deposits through tobacconists with Brink's. On top of banking it adds business tools: unlimited quotes and invoices with automatic payment reminders, invoices matched to incoming transfers, card payment links for invoices, receipt scanning with VAT detection, a social charges estimator, accounting exports and receiving e-invoices. Issuing e-invoices under the French mandate is planned for September 2026 at no extra cost. Pricing runs from a Free plan to Start, Plus and Business. On annual billing these cost 9, 20 and 45 euros a month excluding VAT. Higher plans add more sub-accounts (up to 10), more cards, more included transfers and withdrawals, lower foreign exchange fees, and insurance. Paid plans come with a 30-day trial and no commitment. Partners include SumUp, Mollie, Shopify, Defacto and Silvr. Shine was founded in 2017, bought by Société Générale in 2020 and sold to the Danish group Ageras in December 2024. Ageras then rebranded the whole group as Shine, and Cegid announced a deal to acquire it in late 2025. The main limitation is that Shine is a payment institution, not a bank. It offers no overdraft, no loans and no interest-bearing account, and it is not a full double-entry accounting system, so most users still need an accountant or separate bookkeeping software.
Our Rating
Who Shine is best for
Good fit
The Free and Start plans, the invoicing tool and the social charges estimator are designed for French independents.
The Plus and Business plans add team cards, up to 10 sub-accounts and insurance for very small companies.
Less suited
Online capital deposit and company formation packs help with setting up, but there is no credit.
Reviewers say there is no custom offer and it suits teams larger than about 10 people poorly.
