Overview

e-conomic is an online accounting platform founded in Copenhagen in 2001 and part of the Visma Group since 2015. Visma says more than 260,000 companies use it, which makes it one of the most widely used accounting systems in Denmark. It covers double-entry bookkeeping, invoicing, quotes and reminders, VAT reporting, financial reports, bank integration and receipt handling. Every plan includes free outside access for an accountant or bookkeeper. Higher tiers add bank and receipt automation, the Firmakort company card, extended invoice approval and up to three dimension layers for cost tracking. It suits Danish small and mid-sized companies and their accountants, and the platform also runs in Norwegian, Swedish and English. Pricing is a monthly subscription quoted in DKK excluding VAT. There are four plans: Basis at 249 kr, Plus at 299 kr, Smart at 399 kr and Komplet at 649 kr. Those prices cover 1,000 postings a year, and the price rises with the posting volume you choose, up to 800,000 postings. Extra users cost 149 kr per month, and modules such as inventory, accruals and fixed assets, subscriptions and project management are sold as add-ons. There is an open REST API with webhooks, and integrations cover inventory systems, webshops and payroll through Danløn. The main limitation is that the per-posting pricing and paid modules can push costs above simpler Danish rivals such as Dinero or Billy. Some users also find the system heavy for very small firms, and the lowest plan leaves out reminders, quotes and full API access.

Who e-conomic is best for

Good fit

  • Visma describes e-conomic as built for small and medium-sized businesses, and its plans start at the 1,000-postings-a-year level.

  • Every plan includes free access for an accountant or bookkeeper, and Visma highlights collaboration with advisors.

Less suited

  • Tekpon lists startups as a target, but there is no free plan, so it costs more than some Danish rivals at the start.

Pros & Cons

  • The Basis plan leaves out reminders, quotes, subscription invoicing and full API access.
  • Payroll needs a separate product such as Danløn connected through an integration.
