Overview

Adobe Workfront is an enterprise work management platform that Adobe bought in 2020 for about 1.5 billion US dollars. It covers project and task management, intake, resource and workload balancing, timesheets, reporting and dashboards, and a native review and approval (proofing) tool. Agile teams can use Kanban and Scrum boards. Adobe also sells two related products. Workfront Fusion is a low-code automation and integration builder, and Workfront Planning is a strategic planning module that can only be bought alongside a Workflow package. Workfront fits best in large marketing, creative and operations organizations that run many concurrent projects and need governance, custom forms and metadata, and portfolio visibility. Its integration with Adobe Creative Cloud and Experience Cloud makes it most attractive to companies already using Adobe tools. It also offers a REST API and App Builder for custom extensions. Pricing is quote-only. Adobe sells three packages, Select, Prime and Ultimate, licensed per user. Prime adds advanced work management, security and compliance features. Ultimate adds enhanced automation and data management and includes Fusion, which is a paid add-on on the lower tiers. Adobe's product descriptions also refer to newer Workflow and Planning bundles and to Fusion billed per 1,000 operations. The main limitation is complexity. Reviewers report a steep learning curve, especially for occasional users who only submit or approve requests. They also report a dense interface, some slowness at scale, and a price that makes it a poor fit for small teams.
