Overview
AccountEdge is a small business accounting package with roots in the Mind Your Own Business (MYOB) software of the late 1980s. Acclivity, the developer, was formed in 2005 through a management buyout of MYOB's US operations. Priority Software acquired Acclivity in 2018. The product runs locally on Mac or Windows. It covers a general ledger, sales and invoicing, purchases and expenses, inventory tracking by location, time billing, budgets, financial reports and contact management. An optional payroll service covers unlimited employees and is aimed at US and Canadian businesses. Pricing is a monthly subscription. AccountEdge Pro costs $20 a month for one user. Network Edition costs $30 a month and includes two simultaneous users. The Hosted browser version costs $50 per user per month. Every plan includes ten company files. Paid extras include bank feeds, telephone support, extra workstations, an AI add-on and AccountEdge Connect for online invoice payment. Card processing starts at 2.99 percent. The software suits small, settled businesses that want to keep their books on their own computers, such as trades, retailers holding inventory, and Mac-based offices. It also offers departmental and multi-currency accounting and imports data from QuickBooks. The main limitation is that the desktop editions must connect online every 30 days to check the subscription; otherwise, after a 7-day grace period, the file switches to read-only. Reviewers also complain about the move from one-time licenses to subscriptions, a Mac version that now feels dated, slow support, and bugs after updates.
