Overview

Hootsuite is a Vancouver-based social media management platform that has been around since 2008. Teams use it to plan and publish posts on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube and Threads, answer messages from a shared inbox, follow brand and competitor mentions, and build performance reports. Every self-serve plan includes unlimited scheduled posts, AI post and image generation through OwlyWriter and Wisdom AI, and competitor benchmarking. Standard tracks five competitors and Professional tracks up to 20. Reports can be exported as CSV, XLSX, PDF or PowerPoint. Pricing is per user. On annual billing, Standard costs $99 per user per month and is limited to 10 social accounts. Professional costs $199 and adds unlimited accounts, automated inbox replies and custom reports. Advanced costs $399 and adds approval workflows and message routing. Enterprise is quoted individually and adds SSO, advanced listening built on the Talkwalker acquisition, employee advocacy, and Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics integration. Monthly billing exists, but Hootsuite only shows the monthly rate during checkout. All self-serve plans come with a 14-day trial, and there is no free plan. Hootsuite suits marketing and social teams in mid-sized companies, agencies and enterprises that need approvals, listening and reports clients can read. Its main drawback is cost. Solo users and small teams often call the per-seat pricing prohibitive, and many user reviews describe auto-renewal charges and slow support.

Who Hootsuite is best for

Good fit

  • Hootsuite is built for publishing, the shared inbox and listening across many social accounts.

  • The Enterprise plan adds SSO, custom compliance, advanced listening and employee advocacy.

  • Its reports, competitor benchmarking and approval workflows match how marketing departments work.

  • Users praise its client-ready reports and multi-account management, but per-seat pricing makes larger teams expensive.

Less suited

  • Nonprofits can apply for a discount of about 60 percent on some plans.

  • The $99 per user minimum and the 10-account cap on Standard are steep for small teams.

  • Reviewers say the $99 minimum is hard to justify for solo creators.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Analytics and reports are its most-praised strength. Reports export to PDF, PowerPoint, CSV and XLSX and are ready to share with clients.
  • Competitor benchmarking comes with every plan, covering 5 competitors on Standard and up to 20 on Professional.
  • Social listening is bundled into the plans, and Enterprise keeps 13 months of history.
  • One dashboard covers eight networks, including TikTok and Threads, with a shared calendar.

Cons

  • Paid plans start at $99 per user per month on annual billing, which users often call too expensive for small teams.
  • Standard is capped at 10 social accounts, so an 11th account means upgrading to Professional.
  • Many Reddit and Trustpilot users complain about auto-renewal charges, refunds and cancellations.
  • Users describe support as hard to reach.
  • There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial, and the monthly billing rate is not published.
