Overview
Agentforce is Salesforce's platform for building AI agents that work across web chat, messaging, voice and internal apps such as Slack. Agents use the Atlas reasoning engine to break a request into steps. They read CRM records and act through existing Salesforce Flows, Apex, prompt templates, APIs and MuleSoft connectors. Every action follows Salesforce sharing rules and field-level security. Teams build agents in Agentforce Builder. Agent Script fixes business rules, such as refund limits, so the model cannot change them. Multi-agent orchestration coordinates specialised agents, and batch testing lets teams check agents before release. Salesforce also ships prebuilt agents for case handling, lead qualification, meeting booking and sales coaching. Pricing works in layers. Salesforce Foundations is free and includes the builder tools. Paid usage comes from one of three models: - Flex Credits at $500 per 100,000 credits, with a standard action using 20 credits - $2 per conversation for customer-facing agents, which one review says is now offered only to existing customers - per-user add-ons at $125 per user per month, or $150 for the Industries versions Agentforce 1 or Max editions start at $550 per user per month. Data 360 is metered separately. Agentforce suits mid-market and enterprise organisations whose customer data already lives in Salesforce and who have admin or developer staff. Its main limitation is that it depends on Salesforce. Reviewers report heavy setup and tuning work, costs that are hard to forecast because several meters run at once, and weaker results when data sits outside Salesforce unless Data 360 is added.
Our Rating
Who Agentforce is best for
Good fit
It is built for large Salesforce customers that have admin capacity and complex service and sales operations.
Prebuilt agents cover lead qualification, meeting booking, pipeline work and coaching inside Sales Cloud.
Less suited
It works for mid-market Salesforce users, but one estimate puts first-year costs for a mid-market team at $150,000 to $600,000.
It requires Enterprise Edition or higher and Salesforce expertise to set up.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Agents act through existing Salesforce Flows, Apex and APIs, and they follow sharing rules and field-level security.
- Agent Script lets teams hard-code business rules, such as refund limits, so the model cannot override them.
- Prebuilt agents cover service cases, lead qualification and sales coaching, which shortens time to a first deployment.
- Several buying models are available: Pre-Purchase, Pre-Commit and PayGo.
- Customers can start on the free Foundations tier.
Cons
- Several meters run at once (credits, seats and Data 360), so reviewers find costs hard to forecast.
- It requires Enterprise Edition or higher plus admin or developer skills, with pilots taking 4 to 6 weeks.
- It works best only when the data lives in Salesforce, and outside data usually means buying Data 360.
- Pricing models and product names have changed repeatedly since launch.
- Unused Flex Credits do not roll over to the next term.
