Chatbase

6.4/10

Chatbase is a no-code builder for AI support agents. Businesses train an agent on their own content and deploy it on their website and messaging channels.

Data last updated November 2026 · Our methodology

Overview

Chatbase lets a business build an AI agent for customer support and lead handling without writing code. The agent is trained on uploaded files, website content, pasted text and, on higher plans, past support tickets. You choose the underlying model, with options from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral and other providers. Agents run on a website widget and also on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Slack and Shopify. AI actions let an agent do things during a conversation, such as booking through Calendly or looking up records in Stripe. Paid tiers add voice and telephony agents, a built-in helpdesk inbox and outbound campaigns. Pricing is a flat monthly plan that includes a set number of message credits. Hobby costs $40 a month for 700 credits, Basic costs $150 for 4,000 credits and Business costs $500 for 15,000 credits, with 20% off on annual billing. Enterprise is priced on request and adds SSO, audit logs, custom roles, white-labeling and HIPAA eligibility. Each plan includes one agent. Extra agents, extra storage and removing the Chatbase branding cost extra, and further credits cost $40 per 1,000. Integrations with Zendesk, Salesforce, Intercom, HubSpot and Stripe, plus API access, start on the Basic tier. Chatbase states it holds SOC 2 Type II and supports GDPR. It suits small and mid-sized businesses that want a website support bot running quickly. Its main limitation is cost predictability: different models and AI actions use credits at different rates, and the agent stops replying when credits run out. Users also frequently complain about slow human support and billing disputes.

Who Chatbase is best for

Good fit

  • It builds AI support agents and includes a helpdesk inbox plus Zendesk and Intercom integrations.

  • Setup takes no code, and the Hobby and Basic plans fit small support teams.

  • Agents can be deployed on Shopify and use Stripe lookups.

  • Startups can launch quickly on low entry tiers, but credit-based costs grow with traffic.

Less suited

  • The Business plan's CRM and helpdesk integrations help, but each plan includes only one agent and has caps on training content.

  • Agents trained on product docs and past tickets can deflect support requests.

  • White-labeling requires the Enterprise plan or the $99/month branding removal add-on, and each extra agent costs $25 a month.

  • Enterprise offers SSO, audit logs and HIPAA eligibility, but reviews describe weak support responsiveness.

  • It handles leads and integrates with HubSpot and Salesforce.

  • HIPAA eligibility is limited to Enterprise.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Users can train an agent on files, URLs or text and embed it on a site without code, and Capterra reviewers praise the ease of setup.
  • Users choose the model, with options from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral and other providers.
  • A single agent can be deployed to the website, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Slack and Shopify.
  • AI actions connect the agent to Calendly, Stripe, HubSpot and Salesforce so it can complete tasks during a chat.
  • Chatbase states it holds SOC 2 Type II, supports GDPR, encrypts data in transit and at rest, and does not use customer data to train models.

Cons

  • Message credits are used at different rates depending on the model and on AI actions, so monthly costs are hard to predict.
  • The agent stops responding when credits run out unless auto-recharge is enabled.
  • Trustpilot and Capterra users complain about slow or unavailable human support and charges after cancelling.
  • Each plan includes only one agent, and branding removal costs $99 a month on top of the plan.
  • There is no visual flow builder for complex branching conversations.
