Overview
SiteGround is an independently owned host founded in Sofia in 2004. Since 2020 its whole platform has run on Google Cloud infrastructure. It is best known for managed shared hosting for WordPress and WooCommerce. Every plan comes with its in-house speed and security tools: multilevel caching, a custom web application firewall, an AI anti-bot system, daily backups, free SSL, a CDN and email. It also sells cloud hosting with dedicated resources and autoscaling, reseller hosting, a website builder, an ecommerce store builder and an email marketing tool. Data centers in the US, Europe, Singapore and Sydney let customers host close to their audience. The three shared plans are StartUp, GrowBig and GoGeek. StartUp covers one site with 10 GB of storage. GrowBig and GoGeek allow unlimited sites with 50 GB and 100 GB. The higher tiers add staging, on-demand backups and Node.js apps. GoGeek also adds Git integration, white-label client access and priority support, which suits agencies. Cloud plans start at 80 euros a month for 4 cores and 8 GB of RAM. Developers get SSH, WP-CLI and Git, but SiteGround offers no public infrastructure API, Kubernetes or object storage. That makes it a poor fit for engineering teams that need programmable infrastructure. Its main drawback is renewal pricing. First-term promotional rates are prepaid for a year and then rise about six to eight times: StartUp, for example, goes from 1.99 to 15.99 euros a month. Reviewers often cite this as the reason they leave.
