Runpod
6.6/10Runpod is a GPU cloud for AI teams, offering per-second GPU pods, autoscaling serverless inference endpoints, and multi-node instant clusters.

Overview
Runpod rents GPU compute to developers and AI teams for training, fine-tuning and inference. Pods are containerized GPU or CPU instances. You can run them on Secure Cloud, which uses vetted data center partners, or on the cheaper Community Cloud. Serverless endpoints scale with demand and drop to zero when idle. Instant Clusters link up to 64 GPUs for multi-node work with Slurm or PyTorch. Newer products include the Flash SDK, which runs Python functions on remote GPUs, and Public Endpoints for pre-deployed models, which are still in beta. Pricing is pay-as-you-go with per-second billing. Rates range from about $0.16 per hour for an RTX A5000 on Community Cloud to $8.99 per hour for a B300 on Secure Cloud. Serverless costs more per hour. Storage is billed per GB per month, and volume disk on a stopped pod costs double the running rate. Reserved clusters and enterprise contracts are priced through sales. Independent reviews note that Runpod charges no ingress or egress fees. The platform suits startups, researchers and solo developers who want cheap GPUs with no commitment. Hub templates, SSH, Jupyter, an API, a Python SDK, a CLI and GitHub or Docker deploys keep setup quick. Named customers include Replit, Cursor and Zillow. Runpod reports SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 compliance, along with HIPAA and GDPR programs. The main weakness is reliability. Community Cloud machines can drop out mid-job, GPU availability fluctuates, standard accounts get no uptime SLA, and support for self-serve users draws frequent complaints.

Who Runpod is best for
Good fit
The platform is built for ML developers, with templates, SSH, an SDK and a CLI.
No-commitment, per-second GPU billing suits startups with bursty AI workloads and tight budgets.
Low community GPU rates appeal to individual builders.
Serverless inference endpoints that scale to zero suit AI-powered SaaS products.
Less suited
Enterprise contracts add a 99.99% SLA and compliance reports, but self-serve reliability is uneven.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Per-second billing with no ingress or egress fees keeps short experiments cheap.
- Community Cloud GPUs cost far less than hyperscalers, for example an RTX 4090 at $0.34 per hour.
- Serverless endpoints scale to zero, so spiky inference traffic costs nothing when idle.
- A wide catalogue of more than 30 GPU models, including B200 and B300, across 31 regions.
- Secure Cloud is backed by SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 compliance.
Cons
- Community Cloud machines can drop out mid-job, and some users report pods that crash while billing continues.
- GPU availability fluctuates, and listed GPUs can disappear before you launch.
- Standard accounts have no published support response times or uptime SLA, and the SLA is limited to enterprise contracts.
- Stopped pods pay double for volume disk, and deposited credits are non-refundable.
- Serverless assumes Docker knowledge, and network volumes are tied to a single region.

Frequently Asked Questions
Pods are billed per second with no commitment, from prepaid credit. Storage is billed per GB per month, and idle volume disk costs $0.20 per GB per month.
A 99.99% uptime SLA is available on enterprise contracts and reserved clusters. Standard self-serve accounts have no uptime commitment.
Secure Cloud runs in vetted partner data centers and is covered by Runpod's compliance attestations. Community Cloud is cheaper, but reviewers say it is less reliable and not suited to sensitive data.
Runpod reports SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 reports and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification. It also says it maintains HIPAA and GDPR programs. Documents are available through its Trust Center.
Independent reviews say deposited credits are non-refundable. Problems with failed pods are handled through support tickets.
You can use Hub templates, Docker images, GitHub repositories or Hugging Face models. You can also manage pods and endpoints through the API, the Python SDK or the CLI.
