Overview

Rock, run by Shiny Inc., puts messaging and project management in the same place. Each project or client gets its own space, and that space holds group chat, a task board, notes, files and meeting links. Tasks have statuses, priorities, due dates, assignees, checklists, labels, milestones and sprints, and you can view them as boards, lists or calendars. Chat covers threads, mentions, polls, voice messages and calls. Rock MCP lets AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT search and update work in Rock. Rock suits small teams, freelancers and agencies that work with outside clients. Guests see only the spaces they are invited to and do not add to the bill. Pricing is flat rather than per seat. The Free plan allows three group spaces, five members per space, 50 tasks and 50 notes per space, and 250 MB of storage per space. The Unlimited plan costs $89 a month, or $899 a year on annual billing, and covers up to 500 members per space. It adds sprints, custom fields, recurring tasks, a time tracker, webhooks, Zapier, iCal sync, task export and admin controls. Integrations include Zoom, Google Meet, Jitsi, Google Drive, GitHub, Figma, Notion and Zapier. The main limitation is that Rock offers lighter project management than dedicated tools. It has little built-in reporting, SourceForge lists subtasks and real-time co-editing as unsupported, and there are few independent reviews.

Who Rock is best for

Good fit

  • Each client gets a space, and guests join free with access limited to that space.

  • Rock says the Free plan includes invited clients and freelancers.

  • Chat, calls, tasks and files sit in shared spaces for distributed work.

  • Flat pricing for the whole team, plus a usable free tier.

  • Free guest access per client space suits client work.

  • Chat and tasks in one tool cuts down on tool sprawl for small teams.

Less suited

  • Mid-Market
    4/10

It has flat pricing, but limited reviews and features for larger organizations.

  • Admin and compliance features are limited, and the paid plan is capped at 500 members per space.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Flat pricing with no per-seat fees, so adding clients or contractors does not raise the bill.
  • Chat, tasks, notes and files sit together in each project space, which cuts down on switching between tools.
  • Guests see only the spaces they are invited to, which makes it easy to share work with clients.
  • The free tier is usable for small teams, a point a G2 reviewer also made.
  • Rock MCP lets AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT search tasks and create them.

Cons

  • The Free plan caps each space at 50 tasks, 50 notes and 250 MB, so active projects can outgrow it quickly.
  • SourceForge lists subtasks, real-time co-editing and end-to-end encryption as unsupported.
  • At $89 a month, Unlimited can be expensive for very small teams.
  • There are few independent reviews, for example 14 on G2 and one on SourceForge.
