Overview

Percepto is an Israeli company with US operations in Austin. It builds autonomous drone systems and AI inspection software for industrial operators. Its hardware is the Ranger drone and the Harbor docking and charging station. The drone lives on site, recharges in its base, and flies scheduled or on-demand missions with RGB and thermal cameras. One variant carries an optical gas imaging camera for methane leak detection. In October 2025 Percepto said the EPA approved its autonomous OGI system as an Alternative Test Method under Subparts OOOOa and OOOOb, which permits fully remote leak surveys for federal compliance. The company calls this an important advantage in oil and gas. The AIM software manages the inspection data and runs automated, industry-specific analytics, trends and reports. In late October 2026 Percepto launched AXION, a hardware-agnostic SaaS platform. AXION takes in data from third-party drones, fixed cameras, satellites, sensors and existing inspection archives, organizes it by asset, and offers natural-language queries. This marks a shift from selling hardware first to selling software first. Percepto targets electric utilities, solar, oil and gas, mining, ports and heavy industry, and it names Chevron, ExxonMobil, Koch, Siemens Energy and NRG among its references. Pricing is not published, and deals go through sales demos. The main limitations are that it is built for enterprise budgets, that AXION is brand new, and that public documentation of integrations with CMMS, EAM or GIS systems is thin. Co-founder leadership also changed in 2026.

Who Percepto is best for

Good fit

  • Oil and gas is a core market, and the EPA-approved autonomous OGI methane surveys are aimed directly at these operators.

  • The reference customers are large industrials such as Chevron, ExxonMobil and Siemens Energy, and every sale goes through sales.

  • Electric utilities and power transmission and distribution are named target markets for Ranger and AXION.

Less suited

  • Heavy industrial sites and processing facilities are listed as target environments.

  • Permanent on-site drone stations and enterprise sales do not suit small budgets.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The EPA approved its autonomous OGI system as an Alternative Test Method under OOOOa and OOOOb, so oil and gas operators can run remote methane surveys for compliance.
  • The Ranger and Harbor stations stay permanently on site and recharge themselves, and the base-hopping feature lets one drone fly frequent missions without a pilot on location.
  • AXION accepts data from third-party drones, sensors and existing archives, so buyers are not tied to Percepto hardware.
  • Percepto reports operational results such as one upstream deployment that found more than 130 potential emission events in three months.

Cons

  • There is no public pricing, and on-site hardware deployments are aimed at enterprise budgets.
  • AXION launched only in October 2026, so it has little independent track record.
  • The vendor's site barely documents named integrations with CMMS, EAM or GIS systems, or its security certifications.
  • Leadership changed in 2026, including the departure of the co-founders, which may concern buyers committing to a long-term vendor.
