NocoBase

6.7/10

Open-source, self-hosted no-code platform that technical teams use to build internal business systems such as project trackers, CRMs and ticketing tools.

Overview

NocoBase is an open-source no-code and low-code platform that starts from a data model. Teams define their collections first, then build pages from blocks such as tables, forms, kanban boards, calendars, Gantt charts and charts. The same table can drive several different views. Every feature is a plugin running on a microkernel, so developers can add custom plugins in TypeScript when the built-in blocks fall short. It also has a workflow engine for automations, and paid editions add approvals, subflows and webhooks. Recent releases add AI employees and agents that work with the data stored in the platform. For project management, NocoBase is a toolkit for building your own tracker, not a finished product. It suits teams with developers who need strict data control, field-level permissions and self-hosting. The Community edition is free under AGPL-3.0 and has no limits on users, apps or records, but the NocoBase logo must stay visible. Commercial editions are one-time licences that include one year of upgrades and support: Standard costs $800 and Professional costs $8,000. Enterprise is priced on request and adds cluster deployment and audit logs. Some commercial plugins are also sold individually. Integrations include external databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL and Oracle, REST APIs, SSO, and Gmail or Outlook email. The main limitation is that you must self-host and maintain it, which takes technical skill. Reviewers also say it has fewer ready-made SaaS connectors than mature cloud tools.

Who NocoBase is best for

Good fit

  • Developers can extend its plugin microkernel with TypeScript, and setup needs technical staff.

  • It is self-hosted with field-level permissions, and IT teams use it to build internal systems such as ticketing tools.

  • Enterprise edition offers cluster deployment, audit logs and self-hosting for data residency.

  • Mid-sized companies with in-house developers can replace per-user SaaS tools with a one-time licence.

Less suited

  • Professional edition explicitly allows building and selling applications for clients.

  • Its workflow engine and approvals support internal process tools, but configuration is required.

  • Free unlimited Community edition suits technical founders comfortable with Docker.

  • Self-hosting keeps data in-house and Enterprise adds audit logs, but no public sector features are named.

  • Teams can build ticketing tools with it, but nothing is ready-made.

  • Reviewers note it is less suited to small firms without technical staff.

  • Reviewers call it a poor fit for solo users because of the hosting and setup overhead.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The free Community edition has no limits on users, apps or records, so self-hosting can cost far less than per-user cloud tools.
  • Commercial editions are one-time licences ($800 Standard, $8,000 Professional), not recurring subscriptions.
  • The data model is separate from the UI, so one table can drive a kanban board, Gantt chart, calendar, form and chart.
  • Permissions can be set at the menu, data, field and action level, and self-hosting keeps all data in-house.
  • The plugin architecture lets developers extend almost anything in TypeScript.

Cons

  • Despite the no-code label, setup and maintenance need technical staff and server administration.
  • It is a platform for building tools, not a ready-made project management app, so tracking features must be configured.
  • Reviewers say it has fewer ready-made SaaS connectors than mature cloud tools.
  • Key features such as SSO, approvals and external databases sit behind paid editions, and the Community licence requires the NocoBase logo.
  • Paid editions include only one year of upgrades and support.
