Overview

MapInfo Pro is a Windows desktop geographic information system that Precisely develops. It began as MapInfo in 1986 and was later owned by Pitney Bowes before Precisely took it over. Users can bring their own data together with Precisely's location, property, risk and demographic datasets, then map and analyze it in 2D and 3D. Its patented Multi-Resolution Raster format handles very large raster grids, and Multi-Resolution Virtual Raster merges and reprojects grids on the fly without writing new files. Other features include time series analysis, H3 hexagon aggregation, built-in Spectrum geocoding and drivetime analysis, and an AI assistant that runs spatial tasks from plain-language requests. You can automate work with Python and MapBasic scripts. Integrations include live or cached connections to Snowflake, the Precisely Data Integrity Suite spatial APIs and Bing imagery. Telecom, utility and infrastructure teams use it to plan service upgrades and field operations. Insurers and banks use it for risk and site analysis. The product is sold as a subscription on one to three year terms, and longer terms cost less. Support and updates are included, but Precisely does not publish prices. A free 30-day trial is available, and a free read-only Viewer opens workspaces. The main limitation for infrastructure buyers is that it is an analysis and mapping tool, not an asset management system. It has no work orders, maintenance scheduling or offline field app. It also runs only on Windows desktops, and reviewers report bugs after some updates.
