LixelStudio
4.8/10Windows desktop software from XGRIDS that processes scans from Lixel handheld SLAM LiDAR scanners into georeferenced point clouds, meshes, measurements and 2D plans.
Data last updated November 2026 · Our methodology
Overview
LixelStudio is the processing workstation for XGRIDS Lixel scanners such as the K1 and L2 Pro. It takes raw scans and runs automated SLAM mapping with loop closure and dynamic object removal. It can then fuse several scanning sessions using RTK, ground control points, or connection points, and it supports PPK to tighten global accuracy. Quality control tools run check point analysis and produce statistical reports. Users can filter noise, correct colour, generate meshes, slice point clouds into sections, take measurements, calculate stockpile volumes, view panoramas alongside the cloud, and extract 2D floor plans and contours. Coordinate handling covers built-in national systems, custom transformations, 7-parameter datum shifts, and geoid models. Results export as LAS, E57 (including structured E57 with panoramas), RCP for Autodesk ReCap, and OBJ or OSGB meshes, so they move easily into CAD and BIM tools. Newer releases add remote transmission for live streaming and remote start or stop of K1 and L2 Pro devices. The software suits surveyors, construction and engineering teams, and drone or reality-capture service providers who already own Lixel hardware. XGRIDS publishes no prices. One reseller says LixelStudio comes free with every scanner, while a forum user reports a sales rep quoting about 2,000 USD a year for the Studio software. Processing runs locally on Windows, so there are no cloud processing fees. The main limitation is that the software is tied to the Lixel scanner ecosystem. It also has almost no independent user reviews and no published API.
Our Rating
Who LixelStudio is best for
Good fit
Floor plans, sections, volume calculation and RCP export support site capture and as-built work.
Georeferencing, quality control reports and E57 or LAS export fit survey and engineering workflows.
Less suited
Useful to reality-capture service providers who own Lixel scanners, but it is built for handheld SLAM capture rather than drone flights.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Automated SLAM processing with loop closure and dynamic object removal reduces manual cleanup of handheld scans.
- Map Fusion merges several scan sessions using RTK, ground control points or connection points, and PPK support improves global accuracy.
- Exports to LAS, structured E57, RCP and OBJ or OSGB, so data moves into ReCap and CAD tools without conversion.
- Processing runs locally, so there are no per-project cloud processing charges.
- Includes stockpile volume, slicing and 2D floor plan tools, so simple deliverables do not need separate software.
Cons
- Built for data from XGRIDS Lixel scanners, so it is not a general-purpose point cloud tool.
- Runs on Windows only, according to the Slashdot listing.
- No public pricing, and reports conflict on whether it is free with the hardware or costs about 2,000 USD a year.
- Review sites show almost no independent user reviews.
- The Slashdot listing says there is no public API.

XGRIDS does not publish a price. One reseller says it is included free with each scanner, while a forum user reports a rep quoting roughly 2,000 USD a year. Confirm the price with your dealer.
LAS, E57 (including structured E57 with panoramic images), RCP for Autodesk ReCap, and OBJ and OSGB meshes.
No. Processing runs locally on a Windows workstation, so there are no cloud processing costs.
Yes. It has built-in coordinate systems such as CGCS2000, JGD2011 and HK1980, plus custom transformations, 7-parameter datum transformation, geoid models, and RTK, GCP and PPK alignment.
The newer remote transmission feature supports the K1 and L2 Pro over USB or WiFi, with live streaming and remote start and stop.
