Overview
Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS is Leica Geosystems' desktop application for registering 3D laser scans into a single point cloud. It runs a guided workflow of import, review and optimise, then finalise and publish. It offers automatic alignment for both target-based and targetless projects, multi-threaded batch processing, QA and QC tools, and registration quality reports that can be handed to clients. A feature called Vivid Colours corrects lighting problems in point cloud colour. The software works especially well with Leica hardware. RTC360 scans arrive pre-registered through the scanner's Visual Inertial System, and a BLK Edition covers the BLK360 family. Results can be exported to industry formats such as E57, RCP and PTX/PTS, or published to Leica's LGS format, Cyclone ENTERPRISE, TruView and JetStream, and opened downstream in CloudWorx plugins for CAD tools. Since January 2023 the PLUS name includes publishing features that used to need a separate PUBLISHER licence. The licence is either a permanent licence or an active subscription. Leica does not list prices publicly on its product page. A 2021 independent comparison reported about 4,800 USD up front plus an 885 USD yearly maintenance fee, but those figures are dated. Reviewers mention complex licensing and premium cost. Targetless stitching can be tricky in scenes that lack large surfaces visible across several scans. The tool focuses on registration only: it does not do asset management or modelling on its own.
Our Rating
Who Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS is best for
Good fit
It is built for survey and engineering teams that process terrestrial laser scans into deliverables.
Construction teams use it for as-built reality capture, and it outputs formats that CAD and BIM tools can read.
Less suited
- Consultancies6/10
Its client-ready registration reports suit scanning service providers.
The cost and the reliance on Leica hardware make it harder to justify for small firms.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Automatic alignment works for both target-based and targetless scan projects, guided by a simple import, review and publish workflow.
- RTC360 pre-registration from the scanner's Visual Inertial System cuts down manual registration work.
- Since 2023 the PLUS licence includes publishing to LGS, RCP and Cyclone ENTERPRISE at no extra cost.
- Built-in QA and QC tools and registration reports produce deliverables that can go straight to clients.
Cons
- Third-party comparisons list high cost and complex licensing as drawbacks.
- Targetless stitching can need manual work when scenes lack large shared surfaces, according to a 2021 user comparison.
- Leica does not publish list prices, so buyers have to request a quote.
- As of 2021, data from Leica RTC360 scanners could only be processed in Leica's own software, which limits third-party workflows.
