Flyability

6.2/10

Swiss maker of the collision-tolerant Elios 3 indoor inspection drone and Inspector software for inspecting confined spaces in industrial plants, mines, and utilities.

Data last updated November 2026 · Our methodology

Overview

Flyability builds the Elios 3, a caged drone designed to bump into structures without crashing. Teams fly it inside boilers, tanks, sewers, mines, and other confined spaces so that people do not have to enter them. Its FlyAware SLAM engine and LiDAR payload build 3D maps in real time. Extra payloads add ultrasonic thickness measurement, radiation sensing, and flammable gas warnings. The companion software, Inspector, sorts flight data by asset and shows it in a 3D digital twin. Clicking a point in the model opens the matching video frame. Inspectors can measure defects, tag points of interest with a criticality level, and generate structured reports. Inspector Online adds cloud collaboration and high-accuracy georeferenced point clouds powered by Faro, with LAS export. The cloud platform is SOC 2 Type II compliant. Flyability sells hardware packages through more than 50 resellers, and prices are only available by quote. Press coverage put the Elios 3 at about 55,000 Swiss francs at launch. Inspector Desktop comes with every drone package, while comparison over time and colorization require a Premium Software Plan. A WinCan integration supports sewer inspection workflows. The product suits energy, chemical, mining, and utility asset owners and inspection service companies in more than 60 countries. Its main limitation is scope: it captures and reviews inspection data but does not manage work orders or maintenance, so it has to be paired with a CMMS or EAM system. The upfront hardware cost is high.

Who Flyability is best for

Good fit

  • The vendor's customer logos are dominated by energy and chemical companies, and the drone is built for boiler and tank inspections.

  • The hardware cost and the industrial customer base point to large asset owners.

  • Inspection service companies buy Elios packages to offer confined-space inspection, and Flyability itself does not compete by selling inspection services.

  • It lets plant teams carry out internal asset inspections without entering confined spaces.

  • The WinCan integration and sewer use cases suit water and wastewater utilities.

Less suited

  • A purchase price in the tens of thousands of francs is out of reach for most small firms.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The collision-tolerant cage lets pilots fly into tight, cluttered confined spaces where obstacle-avoiding drones struggle.
  • Inspector links each point in the 3D model to the matching video frame, which speeds up defect review and reporting.
  • Swappable payloads add ultrasonic thickness, radiation, and gas readings to visual inspection.
  • The cloud platform is SOC 2 Type II compliant, with encryption and multi-factor authentication.

Cons

  • There is no public pricing, and the hardware costs tens of thousands of francs.
  • Comparison over time and colorization are locked behind a paid Premium Software Plan.
  • It has no work order or maintenance management, so it needs a separate CMMS or EAM system.
  • Older Elios 1 and 2 drones reached end of life in 2024, which pushed owners to upgrade.
